LookAt - Review and Collaboration

360o Case Study
The Challenge
Gravity first came to use LookAt when they started working on a 360o TV commercial for one of their biggest clients. "We were looking for a review platform that can support such files. Our experience with previous similar projects taught us that we had to find a tool to help us communicate better with the client in such projects", Schiff recalls. Even the simple task of mere viewing turned out to be difficult, as the client was forced to download a special viewing player just in order to see the files in 360o mode and in a secured way. More so, if the review process for regular video files is always difficult, then in a 360o video it is 10 times more so. Schiff explains; "For every frame in the time line, there are really 360 possible frames to comment about. We really struggled with receiving comments in a convenient and coherent way. For every file we sent for review, we received a PDF with multiple screen captures along with text and drawings on them. We would then have to try and find the exact time-code and angle to which each frame was referring to in our edit. A very messy process..."
The Solution
Starting to work with LookAt as a review tool, Gravity eliminated the need for the agency and client to do anything more than receiving secured viewing links and making notes directly on the footage. "Once we began working with the app, the review and commenting time was reduced dramatically" Schif says. "All the files were uploaded directly from our After Effects station, with no need of zipping or special viewers downloaded. The agency and client simply made their notes on the exact spot on the frame that they wanted to comment about, and we were able to see these comments, on our end, straight in our editing time-line in After Effects. There was simply no room for confusion".

Results
Their successful use of app in that went so well, that Gravity adopted LookAt as a tool for all their projects. Though it wasn't their initial motivation to start using LookAt, it became clear that Gravity's greatest benefit of using the app is the saving of time and respectively money, as Schiff explains; "A great deal of our editors and VFX artists are freelancers working by the hour. The efficiency of the reviewing process with LookAt has cut down the average editing hours per project by roughly 25%, which translates directly to money we save as a company".
